Development Matters

I have used the Development Matters document to find out what stages children at early years education should be at.
Here's a link to the Development Matters PDF document.

During my two days at Crosfield Nursery School I interacted with a variety of children, all of whom are at different stages of development.

On page 43, the document states that a child between the ages of 22-36 months should be able to enjoy singing songs, create sounds, and show interest in music. All three of these aims were achieved by the group I had a small music session with. The boy playing the drums was creating sounds and showing an interest in music. All the children are encouraged to sing rhymes during story time and most of them did. Under 'Enabling Environments' it says that adults should invite performers to give the children live experiences, and as BRIT isn't very far away, it might be a good idea if we could set up a connection with them. The children would benefit and so would we.

On page 45, under 'Being Imaginative' it states that a child should begin to make-believe, however when I was at the Nursery, the children weren't beginning, it looked like they had been role-playing for a while as they seemed confident when in the role-play areas.
